Only a few years ago, it was mainly Internet Explorer and Firefox that were listed on as the approved web browsers by the banks, taxation authority and other services that require safe login.
Last week Statcounter's survey showed that Chrome had passed Internet Explorer as the most popular platform. Even the wider surveys that Netmarketshare shows a growth for Google's web browser. This change has meant that suppliers who develop services for safe login have to broaden their views.
This applies, not the least, to Swedish Nexus, the company that focuses on e-IDs. The company delivers solutions, to among others, Försäkringskassan.
– We are now working with a new generation of products for e-ID that will reduce the platform dependency and quickly make new platforms available, says Nexus CTO Per Hägerö.
Today they support Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Chrome and Safari as web browsers and are testing their products on both Windows, Linux and Mac OS.
– During the year we have had a large amount of new customers which creates new demands for web browsers and platforms. We are, for example, working closely with BankID to ensure that end-users can use the platform they prefer, says Per Hägerö.
An added component are the demands of being able to login via cell phones and portable computers, such as iPads. Robert Nyman was an interface architect at the development company valtech for several years, by is since this summer working as a technical evangelist at Mozilla.
– One of the largest problems that I can see is that those who develope cell phones only do it for webkit based browsers instead of for all. It is a dangerous trend and reminds me of how bad it was at the start of the 21th centurty when everyone only developed for Internet Explorer
